Abstract

The study aimed to know the level of problems in teaching social studies in the basic education stage from the point of view of its teachers, and to know the extent to which these problems differ according to gender they teach, academic qualification and experience. The study sample consisted of (101) male and female teachers, and to achieve the goal of the study, the two researchers prepared a questionnaire consisting of (70) statements distributed over (7) main areas and using appropriate statistical methods to process the data. The results showed that social studies teachers in the basic education stage agreed on the presence of teaching problems that obstruct their work, at very large levels in the areas of problems related to school administration, goals, and content of the textbook, and moderate in the areas of problems related to the teacher, students, and teaching methods and strategies. While the results showed that the problems related to evaluation methods were at the level of weak problems, and there were no statistically significant differences between the sample member’s estimates of the teaching problems due to gender or academic qualification. While statistically significant differences were between them due to the years of experience variable and in favor of those with (11-15) years of experience, there were also statistically significant differences between the sample member’s estimates of teaching problems due to the variable for grades (3-6) and (7-9). of the basic stage, and based on the results of the study, the two researchers presented a number of recommendations and proposals.
